CONGRATULATING STEVE SMITH AND THE NAKEDS ON THEIR INDUCTION INTO | |

THE RHODE ISLAND MUSIC HALL OF FAME | |

WHEREAS, Since 1973, Steve Smith and the Nakeds have delighted Rhode Islanders |
|

with their unique blend of rock 'n' roll and rhythm & blues. This horn-fueled force of nature has |
|

helped shape the course of music in the Ocean State and throughout the nation; and |
|
1-4 |
WHEREAS, Over the past four decades, Steve Smith has worked tirelessly to pull |
|
1-5 |
together a cadre of talented performers, each of whom brings a phenomenal capacity to work as a |
|
1-6 |
member of a team. Generations of Rhode Islanders have listened as Steve and the band honed |
|
1-7 |
their musical chops working on gigs from one end of New England to the other; and |
|
1-8 |
WHEREAS, The band has amassed considerable notoriety for its distinctive sound. They |
|
1-9 |
have collaborated with some of the greatest musical talent in America at venues near and far. In |
|
1-10 |
1994, they were called upon to play at a healthcare rally in Washington, D.C. and jammed for |
|
1-11 |
former President Clinton. Steve Smith and the Nakeds went viral and became a household name |
|
1-12 |
in 2008 when their rendition of "I’m Huge (And The Babes Go Wild)" was featured on the hit |
|
1-13 |
television show, The Family Guy; and |
|
1-14 |
WHEREAS, Steve Smith and the Nakeds have brought joy to thousands of fans in Rhode |
|
1-15 |
Island through their musical creativity. As they continue to thrill audiences with their trailblazing |
|
1-16 |
musical fare, they help cultivate a renewed appreciation for big horn music; and |
|
1-17 |
WHEREAS, Steve Smith and the Nakeds are a Rhode Island treasure that deserve our |
|
1-18 |
gratitude and admiration. Their status as a living legend has earned them a much-deserved place |
|
1-19 |
in the Rhode Island Music Hall of Fame; now, therefore be it |
|
2-20 |
RESOLVED, That this House of Representatives of the State of Rhode Island and |
|
2-21 |
Providence Plantations hereby congratulates Steve Smith and the Nakeds on their induction into |
|
2-22 |
the Rhode Island Music Hall of Fame. We are delighted that the musical accomplishments of this |
|
2-23 |
Ocean State icon will be celebrated, honored, and permanently preserved. We wish all of the |
|
2-24 |
current and former members of the band many more years of harmony, happiness, and health; and |
|
2-25 |

RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to |
