CONGRATULATING AND COMMENDING MARY ANN CANTINO ON BEING | |
INDUCTED INTO THE COVENTRY HIGH SCHOOL ALUMNI ASSOCIATION HALL OF | |

     WHEREAS, Mary Ann Cantino has made an unprecedented contribution to Coventry |
1-2 |
High School with her extraordinary service to the school’s students, parents, teachers and |
1-3 |
administrators; and |
1-4 |
     WHEREAS, Mary Ann attended North Cambridge Catholic High School in Cambridge, |
1-5 |
MA, and received an Associate’s Degree in Secretarial Sciences from Graham Junior College in |
1-6 |
Boston, MA, in 1961. Upon graduation she was hired by the college and ran an office there for |
1-7 |
the next five years. Graham Junior College awarded Mary Ann a Certificate of Merit upon |
1-8 |
completion of her employment; and |
1-9 |
     WHEREAS, Mary Ann embarked on a new career when she began to work in a four-hour |
1-10 |
position in the night school at the Coventry Career and Technical Center. In 1980, after three |
1-11 |
years in this position, Mary Ann was hired by the Coventry Public Schools as a clerk in the |
1-12 |
Middle School under then Principal Ed Lombardi; and |
1-13 |
     WHEREAS, In 1987, Mary Ann was transferred to Coventry High School to work with |
1-14 |
Jim DiPrete. Mary Ann threw herself into the job of managing the office, handling parents and |
1-15 |
students, and screening contacts for faculty and administration alike. In addition, through her |
1-16 |
effective leadership and passion for Coventry High School, Mary Ann became a master of the |
1-17 |
budget, helping the administration and staff to use the allocated funds effectively; and |
1-18 |
     WHEREAS, Mary Ann demonstrated her true value when Jim DiPrete decided to retire |
1-19 |
in 1993. The next several years were punctuated by a litany of principals and vice principals |
1-20 |
whose stay was too short. Through it all, Mary Ann embodied calm continuity. She knew the |
2-1 |
parents, kids, and teachers and understood the budget inside and out; and |
2-2 |
     WHEREAS, Mary Ann served as the go-to person at Coventry High School. Providing |
2-3 |
the stability needed to navigate through the rough waters, Mary Ann demonstrated diligence, |
2-4 |
courage, skill, and stamina just when everyone needed it. Her sense of humor helped keep |
2-5 |
problems in perspective. Without her skill and dedication, Coventry High School would have |
2-6 |
been in disarray; now, therefore be it |
2-7 |
     RESOLVED, That this House of Representatives of the State of Rhode Island and |
2-8 |
Providence Plantations hereby congratulates and commends Mary Ann Cantino on her induction |
2-9 |
into the Coventry High School Alumni Association Hall of Fame for the extraordinary service she |
2-10 |
has rendered to students, parents, teachers, and administrators; and be it further |
2-11 |
     RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to |
2-12 |
transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to Mary Ann Cantino. |
