A N A C T

RELATING TO TAXATION -- PROPERTY SUBJECT TO TAXATION

It is enacted by the General Assembly as follows:

     SECTION 1. Chapter 44-3 of the General Laws entitled "Property Subject to Taxation" is

hereby amended by adding thereto the following section:

     44-3-65. Historic district exemptions. -- The town council of the town of Coventry may,

by ordinance, provide for a schedule of exemptions from increased assessment valuations for

1-5

exterior renovations or improvements made to pre-20th century buildings within the historic

1-6

district by their owners pursuant to historic guidelines. The exemptions may be extended to

1-7

buildings outside the historic district which are on the National Register. The ordinance shall

1-8

specify the kinds of improvements and renovations for which the exemptions are permitted.

     SECTION 2. This act shall take effect upon passage.

     This act would authorize the town council of the town of Coventry to provide by

buildings outside the district which are on the National Register within the town of Coventry.
