CONGRATULATING MARINA PALUMBO ON RECEIVING THE PRUDENTIAL SPIRIT | |
OF COMMUNITY AWARD | |

     WHEREAS, Marina Palumbo, a senior at East Greenwich High School, has achieved |

national prominence for her exemplary volunteer service, resulting in her selection as a top |
1-3 |
volunteer in Rhode Island and her recognition as a distinguished finalist for the 2013 Prudential |
1-4 |
Spirit of Community Award; and |
1-5 |
     WHEREAS, The Prudential Spirit of Community Award, presented by Prudential |
1-6 |
Financial in partnership with the National Association of Secondary School Principals, honors |
1-7 |
young volunteers across America like Marina who have demonstrated an extraordinary |
1-8 |
commitment to serving their communities; and |
1-9 |
     WHEREAS, Marina Palumbo was nominated for the 2013 Prudential Spirit of |
1-10 |
Community Award by East Greenwich High School. She earned this nomination and award by |
1-11 |
giving generously of her time and energy to support a school in Haiti for less fortunate children. |
1-12 |
Marina made necklaces and started a charity that she has named “Rays for Restaveks” at her |
1-13 |
school to raise money, gather supplies, and increase awareness about the future of these children. |
1-14 |
Her initiative has been so successful that thirty-five other students were inspired to join a club to |
1-15 |
help her continue her efforts; and |
1-16 |
     WHEREAS, The recipients of the Spirit of Community Award clearly demonstrate that |
1-17 |
young people across America are making remarkable contributions to the health and vitality of |
1-18 |
their communities, and deserve all the praise and appreciation that we can give them; and |
1-19 |
     WHEREAS, Marina and the other prestigious local award winners will be honored with |
1-20 |
an all expense paid trip to Washington, D.C. in early May for several days of national recognition |
2-1 |
and an opportunity to be named America's top youth volunteer for 2013; and |
2-2 |
     WHEREAS, The success of the State of Rhode Island, the strength of our communities, |
2-3 |
and the overall vitality of American society depend, in great measure, upon the dedication of |
2-4 |
young people like Marina who use their considerable talents and resources to serve others; now, |
2-5 |
therefore be it |

     RESOLVED, That this House of Representatives of the State of Rhode Island and |
2-7 |
Providence Plantations hereby congratulates and honors Marina Palumbo on receiving the 2013 |
2-8 |
Prudential Spirit of Community Award for Rhode Island, recognizes her outstanding record of |
2-9 |
volunteer service, peer leadership, and community spirit, and extends best wishes for her |
2-10 |
continued success and happiness; and be it further |
2-11 |
     RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to |
2-12 |
transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to Marina Palumbo. |
