It is enacted by the General Assembly as follows: | |

     SECTION 1. Chapter 42-64 of the General Laws entitled "Rhode Island Economic |

Development Corporation" is hereby amended by adding thereto the following section: |

     42-64-34.2. Workers' compensation subsidy program. – (a) The director, in |
1-4 |
cooperation with the director of labor and training, shall establish a program that offers |
1-5 |
businesses with ten (10) or less employees a subsidy to assist in the payment of workers' |
1-6 |
compensation insurance coverage for newly hired apprentices during their first year of |
1-7 |
employment. |
1-8 |
     (b) The sum of one million dollars ($1,000,000) shall be appropriated to cover the cost of |
1-9 |
this program. |
1-10 |
     SECTION 2. This act shall take effect upon passage. |
