WHEREAS, The North Smithfield boys basketball team, after defeating Johnston in the |

semi-finals by 18 points, faced the East Greenwich Avengers at Brown University’s Pizzitola |
|

Center for the Division III State Title. Led by the 31 points scored by senior Cody L’Heureux and |
|
1-4 |
the tough physical presence and outstanding rebounding from senior tri-captain Matt Walkow and |
|
1-5 |
junior Pete Kennan, the "Northmen" prevailed over the gritty and scrappy Avengers to win the |
|
1-6 |
Rhode Island Division III Championship. With a final score of 66-55, the Northmen finished this |
|
1-7 |
part of their season with a sterling undefeated record of 24-0; and |
|
1-8 |
WHEREAS, The North Smithfield boys basketball team has been led all season by head |
|
1-9 |
coach T.J. Ciolfi and has benefited greatly from his innovative tactics and fierce competitive |
|
1-10 |
spirit. In addition to the contributions from Cody T. L’Heureaux, Peter A. Keenan, and Matthew |
|
1-11 |
Walkow, the "Northmen" were supported by steady leadership from senior tri-captains Daniel |
|
1-12 |
Jordan and Alan W. Strick. A talented supporting roster included Nicholas P. Cicerone, Breno |
|
1-13 |
Pena, Justin M. Economos, Michael A. Cicerone, and Matthew D. Lachance, whose teamwork |
|
1-14 |
was supplemented by insights from Assistant Coach Brian Chuey and Manager David Ruff; now, |
|

RESOLVED, That this House of Representatives of the State of Rhode Island and |
|

Providence Plantations hereby congratulates the North Smithfield "Northmen" Boys Basketball |
|

Team on winning the 2013 Rhode Island Division III State Championship. We wish them |
|
1-19 |
continued success in the upcoming Rhode Island Boys Basketball Open Tournament; and be it |
