A N A C T

RELATING TO HEALTH AND SAFETY -- PLACES OF ASSEMBLY

     Introduced By: Representatives Gallison, Edwards, Marshall, Silva, and Slater

It is enacted by the General Assembly as follows:

     SECTION 1. Chapter 23-28.6 of the General Laws entitled "Places of Assembly" is

hereby amended by adding thereto the following section:

     23-28.6-25. Exemptions from inspections for buildings other than nightclubs or

1-4

places of entertainment. -- Notwithstanding any provisions of the general or public laws, or the

1-5

fire safety code or NFPA to the contrary, fire alarms, smoke detectors and carbon monoxide

1-6

detectors in buildings, other than nightclubs or place of entertainment, shall be inspected and

1-7

tested two (2) times per year.

     SECTION 2. This act shall take effect upon passage.

EXPLANATION

     This act would reduce the number of required inspections and tests of fire alarms, smoke

detectors and carbon monoxide detectors, in buildings other than nightclubs and places of

entertainment from four (4) times per year to two (2) times per year.

     This act would take effect upon passage.
