"WOMEN ENDING HUNGER" | |

     WHEREAS, Margaret Mead, an American anthropologist, perspicaciously stated, "Never |

doubt a small group of thoughtful, committed people can change the world. Indeed, it's the only |

thing that ever has”; and |
1-4 |
     WHEREAS, Women Ending Hunger (WEH) is a strictly volunteer group of women who |
1-5 |
are dedicated to educating the public, advocating for hunger issues, and creating long-term |
1-6 |
solutions to the problem of hunger; and |
1-7 |
     WHEREAS, Working under the umbrella of the Rhode Island Food Bank and in |
1-8 |
conjunction with numerous local and federal programs, organizations, and community groups, |
1-9 |
WEH has advocated for issues on childhood nutrition and school meal programs, as well as the |
1-10 |
Farm Bill and its impact on the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program; and |
1-11 |
     WHEREAS, In addition, members of WEH actively participate in the Food Bank's |
1-12 |
Speakers' Bureau and volunteer at various events and special programs around the state; and |
1-13 |
     WHEREAS, Ending hunger in our state and across our nation requires a joint effort and a |
1-14 |
tremendous sacrifice of time, energy, and resources; now, therefore be it |
1-15 |
     RESOLVED, That this House of Representatives of the State of Rhode Island and |
1-16 |
Providence Plantations hereby honors members of Women Ending Hunger for their dedication to |
1-17 |
those less fortunate. We extend our deepest gratitude and wish the organization continued success |
1-18 |
in all its endeavors; and be it further |
1-19 |
     RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and he hereby is authorized and directed to |
1-20 |
transmit duly certified copies of this resolution to Mary Flynn, Ph.D., RD, LDN, Susan Gustaitis, |
