RELATING TO ANIMALS AND ANIMAL HUSBANDRY -- ANIMAL CARE

It is enacted by the General Assembly as follows:

     SECTION 1. Chapter 4-19 of the General Laws entitled "Animal Care" is hereby

amended by adding thereto the following section:

     4-19-22. Rhode Island incorporated animal welfare or animal rights organization

may assist pet owner in adoption process. -- Nothing in this title shall prohibit a Rhode Island

incorporated animal welfare or animal rights organization from assisting a pet owner in the

1-6

adoption process; provided, that the said organization is not involved in the sale of such animal.

Nothing in this title, shall prohibit a Rhode Island incorporated animal welfare or animal rights

1-8

group from fostering a dog or cat provided it follows the limits on the number of dogs and cats

1-9

that can be housed under the local city or town ordinance.

     SECTION 2. This act shall take effect upon passage.

EXPLANATION

BY THE LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL

     This act would allow a Rhode Island incorporated animal welfare or animal rights

organization to assist a pet owner in the adoption process provided the organization is not

rights group may foster a dog or cat provided it follows the limits on the number of dogs and cats
