|
VALIDATING AND RATIFYING AN AMENDMENT TO THE HOME RULE CHARTER OF | |

THE CITY OF WOONSOCKET | |

It is enacted by the General Assembly as follows: | |

SECTION 1. In all respects in which the amendment to the Home Rule charter of the city |
|

of Woonsocket, which amendment was adopted and approved by the electors of the city of |
|
1-3 |
Woonsocket on November 6, 2012, and which amendment provides that the members of the |
|
1-4 |
school committee in the city of Woonsocket be appointed rather than elected may require |
|
1-5 |
ratification, confirmation, validation, or enactment by the general assembly, but in no other |
|
1-6 |
respects, the provisions of said amendment to the Home Rule Charter of the city of Woonsocket |
|
1-7 |
are hereby ratified, confirmed, validated and enacted. It is the express intention of the general |
|
1-8 |
assembly, by the passage of this act, to give effect to, ratify, confirm, validate and enact those |
|
1-9 |
provisions of the said amendment to the Home Rule Charter of the city of Woonsocket which |
|
1-10 |
require ratification, confirmation, validation or enactment and by the passage of this act, the |
|
1-11 |
legislature does hereby ratify, confirm, validate and enact said provisions, but nothing in this act |
|
1-12 |
shall be construed to abrogate or impair the powers now or hereafter granted to cities and towns |
|
1-13 |
by the Home Rule amendment and other applicable laws of the State of Rhode Island or those |
|
1-14 |
rights retained by said city of Woonsocket in its Home Rule Charter. |
|
1-15 |
SECTION 2. If any provision of this act, or the application thereof to the city of |
|
1-16 |
Woonsocket or to any person or circumstances is deemed invalid for any reason, the remainder of |
|
1-17 |
this act, or the application of such provision to said city or other persons or circumstances shall |
|
1-18 |
not be affected thereby, and to this end the provisions of this act are declared to be severable. |
|
2-19 |
SECTION 3. This act shall take effect upon passage. |
