     WHEREAS, It is with deep sadness and regret that this House has learned of the passing |
|

of The Honorable Morphis A. Jamiel, Major General (retired) Rhode Island National Guard and |
|
1-3 |
retired Probate Judge for the Town of Warren; and |
|
1-4 |
     WHEREAS, Born in Warren to the large and loving family of the late Albert and Mary |
|
1-5 |
Jamiel, Mr. Jamiel was the devoted brother of Bolus, Hirum, Jimmy, Edward, and Albert Jamiel, |
|
1-6 |
Melia Scheffler, Zenobia Paulhardt, Anissa Polando, and the late Amon and Joseph Jamiel, Zina |
|
1-7 |
Willis, and Genevieve Jamiel; and |
|
1-8 |
     WHEREAS, A highly respected adjudicator, Mr. Jamiel was a graduate of Warren High |
|
1-9 |
School, where he had earned membership into the Rhode Island Honor Society. Continuing his |
|
1-10 |
education, he earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Chemical Engineering from the University |
|
1-11 |
of Rhode Island and his Juris Doctor from Boston University Law School; and |
|
1-12 |
     WHEREAS, The Honorable Morphis Jamiel served with the Rhode Island National |
|
1-13 |
Guard, retiring with the title of Major General. In addition to his service to our state and this |
|
1-14 |
country in the military, Mr. Jamiel had served the people of the Town of Warren as a Town |
|
1-15 |
Councilman from 1966 until 1968, as a State Senator from 1962 until 1966, and as State |
|
1-16 |
Representative from 1970 until 1978, and |
|
1-17 |
     WHEREAS, For many years, The Honorable Morphis Jamiel had also maintained a |
|
1-18 |
private law practice. He had been named Probate Judge for the Town of Warren in 1948, serving |
|
1-19 |
until 1961, and was again named Probate Judge for the Town of Warren in 2004, a position he |
|
1-20 |
held until his retirement in 2012; and |
|
2-1 |
     WHEREAS, Judge Jamiel merited a myriad of positions over the course of his lifetime |
|
2-2 |
and had earned the admiration and recognition of his peers. His contributions and service to the |
|
2-3 |
people of this state and the Town of Warren will long be remembered. He will be profoundly |
|
2-4 |
missed by all who had the good fortune to be a part of his vital and fulfilling life; now, therefore |
|
2-5 |

     RESOLVED, That this House of Representatives of the State of Rhode Island and |
|
2-7 |
Providence Plantations hereby expresses our deepest personal sympathies on the passing of The |
|
2-8 |
Honorable Morphis A. Jamiel; and be it further |
|
2-9 |
     RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to |
|
2-10 |
transmit duly certified copies of this resolution to Bolus Jamiel, Hirum Jamiel, Jimmy Jamiel, |
|
2-11 |
Edward Jamiel, Albert Jamiel, Melia Scheffler, Zenobia Paulhardt, and Anissa Polando. |
