RELATING TO STATE AFFAIRS AND GOVERNMENT - ADMINISTRATION OF STATE

DEPARTMENTS

It is enacted by the General Assembly as follows:

     SECTION 1. Chapter 42-20 of the General Laws entitled "Administration of State

Departments" is hereby amended by adding thereto the following section:

     42-20-17. Licensing function - method of payment. – No agency or quasi-public

1-4

agency which is charged with collecting fees for the issuance or renewal of a license shall restrict

1-5

the form of payment which the licensee may choose to employ, provided, however, that nothing

1-6

herein shall permit or require an extension of credit.

     SECTION 2. This act shall take effect upon passage.

EXPLANATION

BY THE LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL

     This act would prevent any agency or quasi-public agency charged with collecting fees

for the issuance or renewal of a license from restricting the form of payment which the licensee

chooses to employ.
