It is enacted by the General Assembly as follows: | |
|

     SECTION 1. Section 17-25-12 of the General Laws in Chapter 17-25 entitled "Rhode |
|

Island Campaign Contributions and Expenditures Reporting" is hereby amended to read as |
|
1-3 |
follows: |
|
1-4 |
     17-25-12. Prohibited contributions. -- No contributions shall be made, and no |
|
1-5 |
expenditure shall be made or incurred, whether anonymously, in a fictitious name, or by one |
|
1-6 |
person or group in the name of another, to support or defeat a candidate in a primary, general, or |
|
1-7 |
special election. No treasurer or candidate shall solicit or knowingly accept any contribution |
|
1-8 |
contrary to the provisions of this section. |
|
1-9 |
     In addition, no member of the general assembly shall accept a campaign contribution |
|
1-10 |
during the period from January 1, through the day of passage of the state budget by both houses |
|
1-11 |
of the general assembly. |
|
1-12 |
     SECTION 2. This act shall take effect upon passage. |
