EXPRESSING CONDOLENCES ON THE PASSING OF SERAFIM COSTA | |

     WHEREAS, It is with great sadness that this House has learned of the passing of Serafim |

"Sam" Costa, the beloved husband of the late Helen R. Costa, the loving father of two sons, |

Donald Costa, and his wife, Cheryl, and Paul Costa, and his wife, Sheila. He was also the |
1-4 |
grandfather of Kristen, Courtney, Ryan, and Emily; and |
1-5 |
     WHEREAS, Born in South Attleboro, Mr. Costa was the son of the late Julio and Mary |
1-6 |
Costa, and brother of the late Grace Silva, Tony Costa, Joseph DaCosta, Maria Nunes, and Idy |
1-7 |
Costa. He had been a longtime resident of the Town of Cumberland; and |
1-8 |
     WHEREAS, Mr. Costa served our country honorably in the United States Army during |
1-9 |
World War II, in the European, African, and Middle Eastern Campaigns. He had been wounded |
1-10 |
in action and was awarded the Purple Heart. He was also honored with the Bronze Star, the |
1-11 |
World War II Victory Medal, the Combat Infantryman Badge 1st Award, and the Honorable |
1-12 |
Service Award Button; and |
1-13 |
     WHEREAS, A loyal and hardworking man, Mr. Costa was employed for over twenty |
1-14 |
years as a machinist by the former Standard Nut & Bolt Co., located in Cumberland; and |
1-15 |
     WHEREAS, Active in the community, Mr. Costa was the oldest, lifelong, living member |
1-16 |
of the Clube Juventude Lusitana and was a lifelong member of the Filibuster Club. He was also a |
1-17 |
communicant of Our Lady of Fatima Church; and |
1-18 |
     WHEREAS, Mr. Costa was a loving husband, a devoted father, and a doting grandfather. |
1-19 |
He enriched the lives of all who knew him and he will be dearly missed; now, therefore be it |
1-20 |
     RESOLVED, That this House of Representatives of the State of Rhode Island and |
1-21 |
Providence Plantations hereby expresses our deepest sympathies on the passing of Serafim Costa; |

and be it further |

     RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and he is hereby authorized and directed to |
2-3 |
transmit duly certified copies of this resolution to Mr. and Mrs. Donald Costa and Mr. and Mrs. |
