A N A C T

RELATING TO ELECTIONS -- GENERAL STATE OFFICERS

     Introduced By: Representatives Corvese, Malik, Palangio, Ucci, and Azzinaro

It is enacted by the General Assembly as follows:

     SECTION 1. Chapter 17-2 of the General Laws entitled "General State Officers" is

hereby amended by adding thereto the following section:

     17-2-4.1. Vacancies in the office of lieutenant governor. – If the office of lieutenant

governor shall become vacant or shall have become vacant by reason of death, resignation or

1-5

otherwise, the general assembly in grand committee shall elect a person who would otherwise be

1-6

eligible to both run for the office and hold the office of lieutenant governor pursuant to the

1-7

constitution of the state of Rhode Island, to fill said vacancy.

     SECTION 2. This act shall take effect upon passage.
