CREATING A SPECIAL LEGISLATIVE COMMISSION TO STUDY CLOUD-BASED | |
TECHNOLOGY IN THE STATE OF RHODE ISLAND | |

     RESOLVED, That a special legislative commission be and the same is hereby created |

consisting of nine (9) members: all of whom shall be members of the House of Representatives, |

not more than five (5) of whom shall be from the same political party, to be appointed by the |
1-4 |
Speaker. |

     In lieu of any appointment of a member of the legislature to a permanent advisory |
1-6 |
commission, a legislative study commission, or any commission created by a General Assembly |
1-7 |
resolution, the appointing authority may appoint a member of the general public to serve in lieu |
1-8 |
of a legislator, provided that the majority leader or the minority leader of the political party which |
1-9 |
is entitled to the appointment consents to the member of the general public. |
1-10 |
     The purpose of said commission shall be to make a comprehensive study of the feasibility |
1-11 |
of requiring all state and quasi-public agencies to institute a system of virtual cloud-based |
1-12 |
technology and to study whether such systems would result in cost savings for the state. |

     Forthwith upon passage of this resolution, the members of the commission shall meet at |
1-14 |
the call of the Speaker of the House and organize, and shall select a co-chairperson. |
1-15 |
     Vacancies in said commission shall be filled in like manner as the original appointment. |
1-16 |
     The membership of said commission shall receive no compensation for their services. |
1-17 |
     All departments and agencies of the state shall furnish such advice and information, |
1-18 |
documentary and otherwise, to said commission and its agents as is deemed necessary or |
1-19 |
desirable by the commission to facilitate the purposes of this resolution. |

     The Speaker of the House is hereby authorized and directed to provide suitable quarters |
2-21 |
for said commission; and be it further |

     RESOLVED, That the commission shall report its findings and recommendations to the |
2-23 |
House of Representatives no later than March 28, 2013, and said commission shall expire on June |
2-24 |
20, 2013. |
