CONGRATULATING MALINDA BRIDGES ON RECEIVING THE 2012 ADLER POLLOCK | |
& SHEEHAN DIVERSITY SCHOLARSHIP | |

     WHEREAS, It is fitting that this House recognizes those students who, through their |

talents and unflagging commitment to excellence, have distinguished themselves in both |
1-3 |
academia and within their communities; and |
1-4 |
     WHEREAS, Malinda Bridges grew up in Coventry. She attended Coventry High School, |
1-5 |
graduated summa cum laude from Rhode Island College, and is currently attending the University |
1-6 |
of Virginia School of Law. In addition to her spectacular academic record, Malinda has attained |
1-7 |
a profundity of honors and awards and has amassed a resume of inspiring achievements that have |
1-8 |
distinguished her as a well-rounded and multifaceted individual; and |
1-9 |
     WHEREAS, As a Justice Studies student at RIC, Malinda received the Mary Ann |
1-10 |
Hawkes Award, the highest honor a Justice Studies student can attain. This honor is granted to |
1-11 |
the student who best exemplifies the mission and goals of the Justice Studies program. Malinda |
1-12 |
was the only student in the program to achieve a 4.0 GPA and to have completed an honors thesis |
1-13 |
in the program; and |
1-14 |
     WHEREAS, In addition, Malinda co-founded Live, Inspire, Fight, Educate (L.I.F.E.), a |
1-15 |
diversity-focused organization that is committed to helping bring about a culture which addresses |
1-16 |
common global concerns in a positive, holistic, and transforming way. The organization’s efforts |
1-17 |
and determination to engage and guide the entire student body towards the path of living together |
1-18 |
in peace earned it the “Organization of the Year Award”; and |
1-19 |
     WHEREAS, By demonstrating these myriad exemplary qualities, Ms. Bridges was |
1-20 |
chosen by the Adler Pollock & Sheehan Diversity committee to receive its 2012 scholarship |
2-1 |
award. As a young woman of immense talent and unsurpassed character, Malinda has exhibited a |
2-2 |
commitment to excellence that, combined with her intellectual aptitude and ambition, surely bode |
2-3 |
well for her future success and her noteworthy accomplishments are not only a tremendous source |
2-4 |
of pride for her family, but also make her eminently worthy of our recognition and praise; now, |
2-5 |
therefore be it |

     RESOLVED, That this House of Representatives of the State of Rhode Island and |
2-7 |
Providence Plantations hereby honors and congratulates Malinda Bridges on receiving the |
2-8 |
prestigious 2012 Adler Pollock & Sheehan Diversity Scholarship. The entire membership |
2-9 |
extends best wishes for her continued success and happiness; and be it further |
2-10 |
     RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and he hereby is authorized and directed to |
2-11 |
transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to Ms. Malinda Bridges. |
