CONGRATULATING DIANE C. MEDEROS ON HER RETIREMENT AS BRISTOL TOWN | |

     WHEREAS, Diane C. Mederos is retiring as Bristol Town Administrator after a career |
|

characterized by distinguished, honorable, and devoted service to the citizens of the Town of |
|
1-3 |
Bristol; and |
|
1-4 |
     WHEREAS, Mrs. Mederos’ first elected public office was town clerk in December, 1984. |
|
1-5 |
She was the first woman in Bristol to hold the office. Diane earned the trust and respect of Bristol |
|
1-6 |
residents, who chose to elect her as Town Administrator in 2004. Her positive contributions to |
|
1-7 |
the town resulted in three subsequent terms as Administrator; and |
|
1-8 |
     WHEREAS, A graduate of Bristol High School in 1970, Diane went on to receive a |
|
1-9 |
Bachelor of Arts degree in Elementary Education and English from Rhode Island College in |
|
1-10 |
1974. She earned a second degree in 1994 from Roger Williams University, in Business |
|
1-11 |
Administration. In May, 2000, Diane was awarded a Masters Degree in Public Administration by |
|
1-12 |
the University of Rhode Island; and |
|
1-13 |
     WHEREAS, Diane is affiliated with several professional organizations and is currently |
|
1-14 |
serving as the President of the Rhode Island League of Cities and Towns, the first woman elected |
|
1-15 |
to serve in this capacity. She also serves on the Board of Trustees of the Rhode Island Interlocal |
|
1-16 |
Risk Management Trust; and |
|
1-17 |
     WHEREAS, Diane’s accomplishments have been recognized locally and throughout the |
|
1-18 |
State. In 2001, she was chosen as the Chief Marshal of the 216th Bristol Fourth of July |
|
1-19 |
Celebration. She received the Outstanding Community Service Award from the Portuguese |
|
1-20 |
American Women’s Association in April, 2002. Diane was again honored in May, 2010, with a |
|

Doctor of Public Service, honoris causa, from Roger Williams University for her dedication to |
|
2-2 |
“scholarship, community and the civil exchange of ideas”; and |
|
2-3 |
     WHEREAS, One chapter of Diane’s life is now coming to an end, but we are confident |
|
2-4 |
that her future will hold many new and exciting adventures; now, therefore be it |
|
2-5 |
     RESOLVED, That this House of Representatives of the State of Rhode Island and |
|
2-6 |
Providence Plantations hereby congratulates Diane C. Mederos for her many years of |
|
2-7 |
distinguished and devoted service to the citizens of the Town of Bristol. She will be missed by |
|
2-8 |
all. We wish her health and happiness in all her future endeavors; and be it further |
|
2-9 |
     RESOLVED, That this House extends to Diane, her husband, Anthony, and their |
|
2-10 |
daughter, Tracie, our best wishes for the days to come, which we hope will be spent in this town |
|
2-11 |
that Diane has taken care of for so many years; and be it further |
|
2-12 |
     RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and he hereby is authorized and directed to |
|
2-13 |
transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to Mrs. Diane C. Mederos. |
