HONORING SENATOR BEATRICE A. LANZI FOR HER SERVICE TO THE PEOPLE OF

THE STATE OF RHODE ISLAND

     WHEREAS, To the immense good fortune of the people of Cranston, Beatrice Lanzi

1-2

chose a life path that would eventually lead to a vocation in public service.  In November of 1991,

1-3

she was elected to the Rhode Island House of Representatives, serving the people of District 22

1-4

for ten years, and on November 5th of 2002, she was elected to the Rhode Island Senate, a

1-5

position she has held for the past ten years; and

1-6

     WHEREAS, Over the last two decades, Senator Lanzi has lent her expertise and unique

1-7

insights to a myriad of legislative committees. She currently serves as the Senate Deputy

1-8

President Pro Tempore, is the Vice Chairwoman of the Senate Committee on Rules,

1-9

Secretary of the Senate Committee on Corporations, and Secretary of the Senate Committee on

1-10

Education; and

1-11

     WHEREAS, Senator Lanzi is a graduate of Cranston West High School. She received her

1-12

Bachelor’s degree in Political Science from Rhode Island College and her Master’s degree in

1-13

Communication Studies from Emerson College. She is the mother of a beautiful daughter, Sofia-

1-14

Rose; and

1-15

     WHEREAS, As a strong voice on educational and youth issues in the Senate, Senator

1-16

Lanzi has been instrumental in supporting and enacting legislation on Safe Schools, prohibiting

1-17

“sexting” and cyberbullying, and Toxic Mold Protection; and

1-18

     WHEREAS, Senator Lanzi has distinguished herself as a national leader on the issue of

1-19

teen dating violence awareness and prevention. Sponsor of the Lindsay Ann Burke Act, which

1-20

utilizes education as a tool for prevention of dating violence, Senator Lanzi joined national

2-1

forums to discuss the innovative approach she spearheaded in Rhode Island; and

2-2

     WHEREAS, Senator Lanzi’s commitment to the community includes membership on

2-3

numerous local organizations, including the American Council of Young Political Leaders and

2-4

serving as a member of Cranston’s Ward 5 Democratic Committee. She is employed as the

2-5

Director of the Labor Community Services for United Way of Rhode Island and is an Instructor

2-6

of Communication and Professional Communication; and

2-7

      WHEREAS, Over the past course of her twenty-year tenure with the General Assembly,

2-8

Senator Lanzi has been noted for her outstanding work and thorough professionalism. Her

2-9

abiding leadership and outstanding service on behalf of the citizens of Rhode Island will long be

2-10

praised, and we know that in all her future endeavors, she will continue to provide strong

2-11

advocacy for all Rhode Islanders; now, therefore be it

2-12

     RESOLVED, That this Senate of the State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations

2-13

hereby joins the family and many friends of Senator Lanzi in recognizing and celebrating her

2-14

inspirational career of service to the Rhode Island Senate. We, moreover, wish the Honorable Bea

2-15

Lanzi continued success, happiness, and fulfillment; and be it further

2-16

     RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and he hereby is authorized and directed to

2-17

transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to The Honorable Beatrice A. Lanzi.
