A N A C T

AUTHORIZING THE CITY OF CRANSTON TO ESTABLISH, ADOPT AND

REAPPORTION THE CITY COUNCIL AND SCHOOL COMMITTEE VOTING WARDS

It is enacted by the General Assembly as follows:

     SECTION 1. In all respects in which amendments to the local voting wards within the

city of Cranston, which amendment was adopted and approved by the city council of the city of

1-3

Cranston on April 17, 2012, may require ratification, confirmation, validation or enactment by the

1-4

general assembly, but in no other respects, the local reapportionment plan of the local voting

1-5

wards within the city of Cranston are hereby ratified, confirmed, validated and enacted by the

1-6

passage of this act. Nothing contained in this shall be construed to abrogate or impair the powers

1-7

now or hereafter granted to cities and towns by the Home Rule Amendment and other applicable

1-8

laws of the state of Rhode Island or those rights retained by said city of Cranston in its Home

1-9

Rule Charter.

     SECTION 2. This act shall take effect upon passage.

BY THE LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL

AUTHORIZING THE CITY OF CRANSTON TO ESTABLISH, ADOPT AND

REAPPORTION THE CITY COUNCIL AND SCHOOL COMMITTEE VOTING WARDS

     This act would authorize and ratify the action of the Cranston town council which

reapportioned and redistricted its six (6) voting wards based on the most recent federal decennial

2-3

census.

     This act would take effect upon passage.
