HONORING PETER L. NERO ON HIS RETIREMENT | |
|
AFTER ALMOST THIRTY-FOUR YEARS OF DEDICATED SERVICE | |
|
EDUCATING THE CHILDREN OF RHODE ISLAND | |
|
|

     WHEREAS, To the very good fortune of many public school students, Peter Nero began |
|
1-2 |
his dedicated career in the field of education as a teacher with the Stoughton Public Schools in |
|
1-3 |
September of 1976. In November of 1978, he took a position with the City of Cranston School |
|
1-4 |
Department and has been educating the city’s students ever since; and |
|
1-5 |
     WHEREAS, Holding myriad positions during his tenure as an educator, Mr. Nero was a |
|
1-6 |
classroom teacher from 1978 until 1997, at which time he was named Assistant Principal of |
|
1-7 |
Cranston High School East. In 1999, he was appointed Principal of Western Hills Middle School, |
|
1-8 |
and in 2006, he was promoted to Assistant Superintendent of Schools; and |
|
1-9 |
     WHEREAS, With a Master’s degree in Education Administration and more than thirty |
|
1-10 |
years of experience, both administrative and in the classroom, Mr. Nero was named |
|
1-11 |
Superintendent of the Cranston School Department in 2009; and |
|
1-12 |
     WHEREAS, Although dealing with difficult economic times, Superintendent Nero has |
|
1-13 |
carried out his responsibilities with commitment, skill, and enthusiasm. He has always |
|
1-14 |
endeavored to tailor and mold the Cranston School system into a uniquely individualized |
|
1-15 |
experience for the rich diversity of students that pass through its doors; and |
|
1-16 |
     WHEREAS, In addition to his busy school schedule, Superintendent Nero has assisted a |
|
1-17 |
panoply of educational committees, including the Cranston Curriculum Council, the Rhode Island |
|
1-18 |
Consortium of Urban Districts, and the New Teacher Evaluation Committee. He is a member of |
|
1-19 |
the Board of Directors for numerous organizations, including the West Bay Collaborative and the |
|
1-20 |
New England Laborers/Cranston Public Schools Charter School; and |
|
2-1 |
     WHEREAS, A lifelong learner, Superintendent Nero is affiliated with numerous |
|
2-2 |
professional organizations and has been honored by his peers for meritorious service and Lifetime |
|
2-3 |
Achievement, and is an inductee into the Cranston Hall of Fame; and |
|
2-4 |
     WHEREAS, The accomplishments and strides Superintendent Nero has made in the |
|
2-5 |
educational experiences of the children in Cranston will be felt for generations, and his numerous |
|
2-6 |
and selfless accomplishments serve as a model for all our educational leaders; now, therefore be it |
|
2-7 |
     RESOLVED, That this Senate of the State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations |
|
2-8 |
hereby honors and commends Superintendent Peter Nero on his retirement after more than 34 |
|
2-9 |
outstanding years with the City of Cranston’s School Department. We thank him for all his |
|
2-10 |
efforts, and wish him good health, fulfillment, and much success in all his future endeavors; and |
|
2-11 |
be it further |

     RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and he hereby is authorized and directed to |
|
2-13 |
transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to Mr. Peter L. Nero. |
