WHEREAS, Special Olympics Project UNIFY is a national project funded by the United |
|

States Department of Education. Its goal is to encourage young people from around the country |
|

to be agents of change in building a more inclusive world; and |
|

WHEREAS, The Special Olympics RI (SORI) Project UNIFY High School Program |
|
1-5 |
works together with the Rhode Island Interscholastic League to give high school students with |
|
1-6 |
and without intellectual disabilities a chance to participate in sports as athletes, teammates, and |
|
1-7 |
peers; and |
|
1-8 |
WHEREAS, At the heart of Project UNIFY is the belief that young people are not just |
|
1-9 |
the leaders of the future, they can also be leaders today in their schools and their communities; |
|
1-10 |
and |
|
1-11 |
WHEREAS, The East Greenwich team was one of six participating in the USA |
|
1-12 |
Volleyball Open National Championships that was held this year in Salt Lake City, Utah. The |
|
1-13 |
team consisted of twelve players, six athletes and six partners, with two alternates; and |
|
1-14 |
WHEREAS, Not only did the East Greenwich High School Project UNIFY Volleyball |
|
1-15 |
team earn the title of 2012 USA Volleyball Open National Champions with grace and integrity, |
|
1-16 |
but through their actions, unity, and respect for one another, they are helping to build a brighter |
|
1-17 |
and more compassionate future for generations to come; now, therefore be it |
|
1-18 |
RESOLVED, That this Senate of the State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations |
|
1-19 |
hereby congratulates and applauds the members and coaches of the East Greenwich High School |
|
1-20 |
Project UNIFY Volleyball team for taking home the gold at the USA Volleyball Open National |
|

Championships. We furthermore extend our best wishes for good health, fulfillment, and much |
|

success in all their future endeavors; and be it further |
|

RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and he hereby is authorized and directed to |
