It is enacted by the General Assembly as follows: | |

     SECTION 1. Section 5-45-8 of the General Laws in Chapter 5-45 entitled "Nursing |
|

Home Administrators" is hereby amended to read as follows: |
|

     5-45-8. Licensure in other jurisdictions. -- The department may issue a nursing home |
|
1-4 |
administrator's license without examination, to any person who holds a current license in good |
|
1-5 |
standing as a nursing home administrator from another jurisdiction; provided, that the department |
|
1-6 |
finds that the individual meets education and experience requirements as established by the |
|
1-7 |
department regulation. For purposes of this section the department shall not disqualify an |
|
1-8 |
applicant on the basis that his or her most recent experience was in a management position having |
|
1-9 |
direct responsibility for overseeing and directing a number of licensed nursing home |
|
1-10 |
administrators, rather than as an administrator of a licensed long-term care facility. |

1-11 |
     SECTION 2. This act shall take effect upon passage. |

     This act would allow an applicant for a nursing home administrator’s license from |

another jurisdiction to qualify for a license in Rhode Island, even if their most recent experience |

was in a management position with direct responsibility for overseeing licensed nursing home |

administrators rather than as an administrator of a facility. |
