It is enacted by the General Assembly as follows: | |

SECTION 1. Article 5, section 503 of the home rule charter of the town of West |
|

Warwick is hereby amended so as to extend the date of the annual town meeting from the third |
|

Tuesday in May to June 11, 2012 as follows: |

503. Financial town meeting. - Unless otherwise authorized by state law, the annual |
|
1-5 |
financial town meeting shall convene on |
|
1-6 |
place as shall be prescribed by the town council. All financial town meetings shall be conducted |
|
1-7 |
and shall have the powers as prescribed by state law, not inconsistent with the provisions of this |
|
1-8 |
charter. At the financial town meeting, the town council will explain and officially propose its |
|
1-9 |
budget and any other issue(s) requiring a vote by registered West Warwick voters. The school |
|
1-10 |
committee may be invited by the town council to discuss its budget estimate which is part of the |
|
1-11 |
overall budget for West Warwick. On the first Thursday following the financial town meeting an |
|
1-12 |
all day referendum shall be held allowing registered voters to either approve or disapprove the |
|
1-13 |
budget and any other issue(s) requiring a vote. |

SECTION 2. This act shall take effect upon passage. |
