GRANGE #6 "GRANGER OF THE YEAR" | |

WHEREAS, The Grange is the nation’s oldest general agricultural and rural advocacy |
|

organization, with grassroots units in 3,600 local communities in 39 states, and nearly 300,000 |
|
1-3 |
members serving farm, non-farm, rural families, and communities on a wide variety of economic, |
|
1-4 |
educational, legislative, and family issues; and |
|
1-5 |
WHEREAS, Jack Cottrell, an active member of the Richmond Grange #6 for over fifty |
|
1-6 |
years, has been recognized as the 2012 Richmond Grange #6 “Granger of the Year”; and |
|
1-7 |
WHEREAS, During Jack’s many years with the Grange, he has served on countless |
|
1-8 |
committees and held numerous offices, including Master of Richmond, Washington County |
|
1-9 |
Pomona, and the Rhode Island State Grange; and |
|
1-10 |
WHEREAS, Jack has been an outstanding and enthusiastic Granger on the national level, |
|
1-11 |
as well, representing Rhode Island with his wonderful wife, Patty, at the National Grange |
|
1-12 |
Sessions. He was named one of the Heroes of the Grange for his key contributions during the |
|
1-13 |
Tyson battle; and |
|
1-14 |
WHEREAS, Jack has served as Chairman of the Washington County Fair for ten years |
|
1-15 |
and has been an integral part of the Washington County Fair Committee since its inception, where |
|
1-16 |
he has toiled away in every capacity, from advertising chairman and entertainment chairman to |
|
1-17 |
helping out with the parking lot and concessions; and |
|
1-18 |
WHEREAS, With boundless energy and five decades of leadership experience at the |
|
1-19 |
Grange, Jack led the Richmond Grange #6 to second place in the nation for community projects |
|
1-20 |
during 2011, and continues to be active as store manager for the Big E Grange Building and as a |
|
2-1 |
Big E trustee; now, therefore be it |
|

RESOLVED, That this Senate of the State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations |
|
2-3 |
hereby honors and congratulates Jack Cottrell on being named the 2012 Richmond Grange #6 |
|
2-4 |
“Granger of the Year”; and be it further |
|
2-5 |
RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and he hereby is authorized and directed to |
|
2-6 |
transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to Jack Cottrell. |
