RECOGNIZING AND COMMENDING J. TANNER BUTERBAUGH UPON ACHIEVING | |
|
SCOUTING'S MOST DISTINGUISHED HONOR, THE RANK OF EAGLE SCOUT | |

     WHEREAS, The Boy Scouts of America has a long and impressive history of preparing |
|

young men to assume responsibility in their communities. The Boy Scouts is one of the largest |
|
1-3 |
youth organizations in the United States. The rank of Eagle Scout, which was first introduced in |
|
1-4 |
1911, is the highest a young man can attain in the Boy Scouts, and the title of Eagle Scout is held |
|
1-5 |
for life; and |
|
1-6 |
     WHEREAS, J. Tanner Buterbaugh is a remarkable young man worthy of this prestigious |
|
1-7 |
achievement and his accomplishments are truly deserving of our recognition; and |
|
1-8 |
     WHEREAS, Tanner has distinguished himself through his continued performance of |
|
1-9 |
active service in Scouting. He has demonstrated strong leadership abilities by serving in several |
|
1-10 |
positions, such as Patrol Leader, Troop Guide, Instructor, Quartermaster, and Assistant Senior |
|
1-11 |
Patrol Leader. He also completed the White Stag Youth Leadership Training at Camp Champlain. |
|
1-12 |
His most memorable event as a scout was working with other Eagle Scouts, leading a troop of |
|
1-13 |
younger scouts through a week of summer camp; and |
|
1-14 |
     WHEREAS, J. Tanner Buterbaugh of Troop 152, North Kingstown, Rhode Island, has |
|
1-15 |
completed the arduous and demanding requirements necessary to be awarded the rank of Eagle |
|
1-16 |
Scout. As the highlight of his scouting years and to complete the final step toward obtaining the |
|
1-17 |
rank of Eagle, Tanner planned, developed, and carried out an extensive Eagle Scout service |
|
1-18 |
project, which consisted of designing storage shelves for the clothing ministry at Quidnessett |
|
1-19 |
Baptist Church located in North Kingstown. Tanner raised all the funds and materials from local |
|
1-20 |
businesses, and organized all of the workers, scouts, and volunteers. Tanner and fellow scouts |
|
2-1 |
devoted countless hours and an amazing amount of energy carrying out his project for the benefit |
|
2-2 |
of the community; and |
|
2-3 |
     WHEREAS, In addition to completing the necessary requirements for his Eagle Badge, |
|
2-4 |
Tanner has participated in numerous outdoor adventures, including several campouts and cycling |
|
2-5 |
trips to Block Island, as well as camping trips to Camp Hoffman, Buck Hill, and Yawgoog Boy |
|
2-6 |
Scout Camp; and |
|
2-7 |
     WHEREAS, Tanner also finds the time and energy to be an exemplary student. His love |
|
2-8 |
for music has had him very involved in the music programs at school, including the concert and |
|
2-9 |
symphonic bands and the percussion ensemble. Recently, he participated in a national |
|
2-10 |
competition in New York and earned Gold awards in each group. He has also been involved in |
|
2-11 |
the North Kingstown Fine Arts Department winter musical by filling two major roles in the |
|
2-12 |
performance of Footloose; and |
|
2-13 |
     WHEREAS, Currently a senior, he has traveled with his peers to Johns Island, South |
|
2-14 |
Carolina, to assist with home repairs and improvements in February during school break for the |
|
2-15 |
last several years. After graduation, Tanner will attend the United States Naval Academy to |
|
2-16 |
pursue his dream of becoming a Naval Officer; and |
|
2-17 |
     WHEREAS, He actively participates in the youth programs and music ministry at his |
|
2-18 |
church, East Greenwich United Methodist Church. His love for music has allowed him to |
|
2-19 |
accompany the Heaven Sent Choir and Joyful Noise Gospel Choir; and |
|
2-20 |
     WHEREAS, In addition to school and church, Tanner finds the time to study karate at |
|
2-21 |
Newport Martial Arts, where he received the rank of black belt in Oki Ryu Kenpo; and |
|
2-22 |
     WHEREAS, It is essential and fitting to recognize the triumphs of our youth and to |
|
2-23 |
celebrate the accomplishments of our future leaders. Eagle Scout J. Tanner Buterbaugh |
|

exemplifies everything an Eagle Scout should be and all that we hope our children will grow to |
|
2-25 |
be; now, therefore be it |
|
2-26 |
     RESOLVED, That this Senate of the State of Rhode Island honors J. Tanner Buterbaugh |
|
2-27 |
for all he has done to attain the rank of Eagle within the Boy Scouts of America; and be it further |
|
2-28 |
     RESOLVED, That this Senate hereby extends its deepest appreciation to Tanner for his |
|
2-29 |
untiring service to the community and for setting a high standard of commitment and dedication |
|
2-30 |
by which the youth of this great state may follow. We send our very best wishes to J. Tanner |
|
2-31 |
Buterbaugh and wish him good health and happiness in the months and years ahead; and be it |
|
2-32 |
further |

     RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and he hereby is authorized and directed to |
|
2-34 |
transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to Eagle Scout J. Tanner Buterbaugh. |
