CONGRATULATING THE COVENTRY HIGH SCHOOL HOCKEY TEAM ON WINNING | |

WHEREAS, After completing a sweep of Prout High School in the title series, the |

Coventry High School Hockey team has captured their second consecutive Rhode Island |

Interscholastic League (RIIL) Division II state title; and |
|

WHEREAS, The strong team effort and gritty play that has epitomized the season for |
|
1-5 |
Coventry was evident at the state championships when the Knotty Oakers Hockey team’s high |
|
1-6 |
powered offense combined with an equally potent defense to demonstrate why they are the top |
|
1-7 |
team in the division; and |
|
1-8 |
WHEREAS, Playing in their final RIIL High School Hockey game, senior captains, Alex |
|
1-9 |
Zannella, P.J. Stringfellow, Zach Levesque and Connor DiPetro were instrumental to the overall |
|
1-10 |
success of the team, each making a significant and noteworthy contribution to the hard fought |
|
1-11 |
victory; and |
|
1-12 |
WHEREAS, This season was a true team effort, one that saw four solid lines filled with |
|
1-13 |
talented players working together to dominate Division II, culminating with an MVP performance |
|
1-14 |
in the title game by Michael Pesola; and |
|
1-15 |
WHEREAS, Coventry Coach Ken Bird’s leadership, and the coaching staffs’ hard work, |
|
1-16 |
were key to gaining the team’s commitment to the mental preparedness and physical endurance |
|
1-17 |
needed during the long interscholastic season and the state championship tournament; now, |
|
1-18 |
therefore be it |
|

RESOLVED, That this Senate of the State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations |
|
1-20 |
hereby congratulates Coach Ken Bird and the Coventry High School Hockey Team on winning |
|

the 2011 Rhode Island Interscholastic League Division II State Championship; and be it further |
|
2-2 |
RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and he hereby is authorized and directed to |
|
2-3 |
transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to Coach Ken Bird. |
