CONGRATULATING THE 2011-2012 RHODE ISLAND COLLEGE ANCHORWOMEN | |

BASKETBALL TEAM ON THEIR FIRST PLACE FINISH IN THE REGULAR SEASON | |
|
AND LITTLE EAST CONFERENCE TOURNAMENT | |
|

     WHEREAS, Finishing the regular 2011-2012 season with an impressive 25-4 overall |
|

record and a 13-1 first place win in the Little East Conference, the Rhode Island College |
|

Anchorwomen’s Basketball Team enjoyed the most successful campaign in the school’s history; |
|
1-4 |
and |
|
1-5 |
     WHEREAS, This season’s Anchorwomen blazed new records in the number of wins |
|
1-6 |
(25), winning percentage (.862), and number of Little East wins (13), as well as captured the |
|
1-7 |
program’s first-ever Little East Conference Regular Season and Tournament Championships; |
|
1-8 |
and |
|
1-9 |
     WHEREAS, In addition, Rhode Island College’s Anchorwomen participated in the |
|
1-10 |
NCAA Tournament for only the third time and hosted the tournament for the first time in the |
|
1-11 |
college’s history; and |
|
1-12 |
     WHEREAS, In his fourth season with the Anchorwomen, Head Coach Marcus Reilly |
|
1-13 |
honed in on rebuilding the team, a strategy that paid off. He had previously led the Community |
|
1-14 |
College of Rhode Island to two straight Elite Eight appearances before joining Rhode Island |
|
1-15 |
College for the 2008-09 basketball season; and |
|
1-16 |
     WHEREAS, Rounding out Coach Reilly’s successful coaching staff is Anchorwomen |
|
1-17 |
Associate Head Coach, Claudia DeFaria, and Assistant Coach, Colleen Smith. Claudia was |
|
1-18 |
previously a member of the Community College of Rhode Island staff and has worked with |
|
1-19 |
Coach Reilly for the past nine seasons. Colleen is in her first season with the Anchorwomen. She |
|
1-20 |
had played at WestConn and was an assistant coach at East Lyme High School and is a head |
|
2-1 |
coach and an assistant in the CT Storm AAU program; and |
|
2-2 |
     WHEREAS, Utilizing talent, great coaching, and commitment, the Rhode Island College |
|
2-3 |
Anchorwomen became the top team in the highly respected Little East and one of the top teams to |
|
2-4 |
watch in the country. They have earned our applause and recognition; now, therefore be it |
|
2-5 |
     RESOLVED, That this Senate of the State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations |
|
2-6 |
hereby congratulates the players and coaches of the Rhode Island College Anchorwomen |
|
2-7 |
Basketball Team on their regular season and tournament Championships; and be it further |
|
2-8 |
     RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and he hereby is authorized and directed to |
|
2-9 |
transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to Marcus R. Reilly, Head Coach of the Rhode |

Island College Anchorwomen Basketball Team. |
