CREATING A SPECIAL LEGISLATIVE COMMISSION TO STUDY AND DEVELOP A | |

STRATEGY FOR MINIMIZING THE IMPACT OF MASSACHUSETTS GAMBLING | |

FACILITIES ON RHODE ISLAND GAMBLING REVENUE | |

     RESOLVED, That a special legislative commission to be known as the “Casino Impact |
|

Task Force” be and the same is hereby created consisting of five (5) members of the Senate of not |
|
1-3 |
more than three (3) from the same political party, to be appointed by the President of the Senate, |
|
1-4 |
and approved by the Senate Minority Leader. |
|
1-5 |
     The purpose of said commission shall be to make a comprehensive study, and develop a |
|
1-6 |
strategy for assessing and to the extent possible minimizing or offsetting the expected impact of |
|
1-7 |
the likely expansion of Massachusetts gambling facilities on Rhode Island gambling revenue. |
|
1-8 |
     Forthwith upon passage of this resolution, the members of the commission shall meet at |
|
1-9 |
the call of the President of the Senate and organize and shall select a chairperson from among its |
|
1-10 |
members. Vacancies in said commission shall be filled in like manner as the original |
|
1-11 |
appointment. |
|
1-12 |
     The membership of said commission shall receive no compensation for their services. |
|
1-13 |
     All departments and agencies of the state shall furnish such advice and information, |
|
1-14 |
documentary and otherwise, to said commission and its agents as is deemed necessary or |
|
1-15 |
desirable by the commission to facilitate the purposes of this resolution. |
|
1-16 |
     The Joint Committee on Legislative Services is hereby authorized and directed to provide |
|
1-17 |
suitable quarters for said commission; and be it further |
|

RESOLVED, That the commission shall report its findings and recommendations to the |
|

President of the Senate no later than May 31, 2012, and said commission shall expire on June 30, |

     This resolution would create a five (5) member special legislative commission to be |
