A N A C T

RELATING TO EDUCATION - PRIVATE SCHOOLS

     Introduced By: Senators Gallo, Lanzi, and Ottiano

It is enacted by the General Assembly as follows:

     SECTION 1. Chapter 16-40 of the General Laws entitled "Private Schools" is hereby

amended by adding thereto the following section:

     16-40-10.3. Rhode Island school of osteopathic medicine. -- Notwithstanding any rule,

regulation, or general law to the contrary Rhode Island School of Osteopathic Medicine shall be

1-5

authorized to grant doctor of osteopathic medicine (D.O.) degrees provided that it is in

1-6

compliance with regulations and standards for approval adopted by the board of governors for

1-7

higher education.

     SECTION 2. This act shall take effect upon passage.

     This act would authorize a Rhode Island School of Osteopathic Medicine to grant doctor

of osteopathic medicine (D.O.) degrees, subject to approval by the board of governors for higher

education.

     This act would take effect upon passage.
