EXPRESSING CONDOLENCES ON THE PASSING OF MILTON STANZLER | |

     WHEREAS, It is with deep sadness and regret that this Senate has learned of the passing |

of Milton Stanzler, a devoted family man and a highly respected attorney; and |
1-3 |
     WHEREAS, The son of Dora and Abraham Stanzler, Milton Stanzler was the beloved |
1-4 |
husband of Selma Stanzler. He is also survived by his children, Jonathan Stanzler, and Jill |
1-5 |
Stanzler-Katz, and her husband, Jeff Katz, his step children, Stephanie Penzell, and David |
1-6 |
Penzell, and his wife, Nannette, and was the proud grandfather of Alexandra and Samantha Katz, |
1-7 |
and Robbie and Jaclyn Penzell. He was predeceased by his brothers, Max, Joseph, Meyer, and |
1-8 |
Harold, and his sisters, Mollie Fisch and Helen Waldman; and |
1-9 |
     WHEREAS, Mr. Stanzler maintained a flourishing private practice as a principle partner |
1-10 |
in the law practice of Abedon, Michaelson, Stanzler & Biener. His legal expertise was highly |
1-11 |
sought and had earned him the distinction of arguing before the R.I. Supreme Court, the First |
1-12 |
Circuit Court of Appeals, and the U.S Supreme Court; and |
1-13 |
     WHEREAS, Associated with a panoply of professional and community organizations, |
1-14 |
Mr. Stanzler was cofounder of the Trinity Repertory Company and had served as its first board |
1-15 |
Chairman. He had also founded the R.I. Affiliate of the American Civil Liberties Union, was |
1-16 |
president of the Jewish Community Center, Chairman of the American Veterans Committee, |
1-17 |
Public Relations Chair of the R.I. Bar Association, and Chair for Israel Bonds; and |
1-18 |
     WHEREAS, Politically active, Mr. Stanzler represented Rhode Island at the Democratic |
1-19 |
National Convention in 1972. He had also amassed numerous professional distinctions, and was |
1-20 |
inducted in the R.I. Heritage Hall of Fame and honored by the R.I. ACLU in 2009; and |
2-21 |
     WHEREAS, Milton Stanzler enjoyed the love of his family, the loyalty of his friends, |
2-22 |
and the admiration of his peers, and he will be profoundly missed by those who had the good |
2-23 |
fortune to be a part of his vital and fulfilling life; now, therefore be it |
2-24 |
     RESOLVED, That this Senate of the State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations |
2-25 |
hereby expresses our deepest personal sympathies to his wife, Selma, and the entire Stanzler |
2-26 |
family on the passing of Milton Stanzler; and be it further |
2-27 |
     RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and he hereby is authorized and directed to |
2-28 |
transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to Mrs. Selma Stanzler and Family. |
