WHEREAS, In 1981, the need for brotherhood, unity, cultural expression and an |
|

exchange of ideas between Latinos at Cornell University was recognized and acted upon; and |
|

WHEREAS, A fraternal organization, La Unidad Latina, Lambda Upsilon Lambda |
|
1-4 |
Fraternity was formed by 13 members with the intent to create a sense of unity among the Latino |
|
1-5 |
population, a focal point for Latino culture, and a place to find their cultural roots; and |
|
1-6 |
WHEREAS, Exemplary commitment to community and service, while embodying the |
|
1-7 |
responsibility as role models who are successful graduates in post-secondary and graduate |
|
1-8 |
education in the community, are the shared beliefs upon which the La Unidad Latina, Lambda |
|
1-9 |
Upsilon Lambda Fraternity was founded; and |
|
1-10 |
WHEREAS, La Unidad Latina, Lambda Upsilon Lambda Fraternity continues to set an |
|
1-11 |
example of the progress and success of Latinos, despite statistically reported barriers to achieving |
|
1-12 |
academic and economic goals, while providing active mentorship to our hermandad and the youth |
|
1-13 |
of our community, and fostering leadership in the community; and |
|
1-14 |
WHEREAS, That this Senate of the State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations |
|
1-15 |
hereby congratulates La Unidad Latina, Lambda Upsilon Lambda Fraternity on the occasion of |
|
1-16 |
the 30th anniversary of its founding, and the extraordinary success they have had across the |
|
1-17 |
nation, with Chapters extending to the campuses of over 75 prominent undergraduate institutions |
|
1-18 |
and 14 alumni/graduate entities in most major American cities; now, therefore be it |
|
1-19 |
RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and he hereby is authorized and directed to |
|
1-20 |
transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to the President of the National Council of La |
|
