EXPRESSING OUR DEEPEST CONDOLENCES ON THE PASSING OF MARIA (SCIARRA) | |

     WHEREAS, It is with heavy hearts and deep sadness that we offer our condolences to the |
|

Costantino family on the passing of family matriarch Maria (Sciarra) Costantino. Born in |
|
1-3 |
Providence the daughter of Antonio and Antonetta (Brosco) Sciarra, she was the wife of the late |
|
1-4 |
Vincent Costantino for 36 years and loving mother to her seven sons, Alan and Gregory of |
|
1-5 |
Lincoln, Damian, Steven, and Joseph of Providence, and the late Anthony and Gary; and |
|
1-6 |
     WHEREAS, An institution in the venerable Federal Hill neighborhood of Providence, |
|
1-7 |
Maria Costantino was a caseworker for youth and a Nursing Assistant at the Providence |
|
1-8 |
Ambulatory Health Care Center. In addition, her family owns and runs Venda Ravioli, a beloved |
|
1-9 |
restaurant and business establishment in Federal Hill, a community known for its outstanding |
|
1-10 |
restaurants and fine food establishments; and |
|
1-11 |
     WHEREAS, Maria and her family have contributed much over the years to the fabric of |
|
1-12 |
life in Federal Hill, as well as to Providence and the State of Rhode Island. Her son, the |
|
1-13 |
Honorable Steven Costantino, was a distinguished and highly respected member of the Rhode |
|
1-14 |
Island General Assembly and the Chairman of the House Finance Committee, and currently |
|
1-15 |
serves as the Secretary of the Rhode Island Office of Health and Human Services; and |
|
1-16 |
     WHEREAS, Maria is also survived by her sister Elia Viti of Providence, a brother, |
|
1-17 |
Rudolph Sciarra of Providence, fifteen grandchildren, and one great-grandchild. She was the |
|
1-18 |
sister of the late Victor, John, Edward, Umberto, Guerino, Dante, and Joseph Sciarra, and |
|
1-19 |
Margaret Krupa and Beatrice Silva; and |
|
2-20 |
     WHEREAS, Maria was also a dear and trusted friend to many and a beloved member of |
|
2-21 |
the Federal Hill community. She will be sorely missed by her family, friends, and loved ones, but |
|
2-22 |
her presence and spirit will carry on in the hearts of all who knew her; now, therefore be it |
|
2-23 |
     RESOLVED, That this Senate of the State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations |
|
2-24 |
hereby expresses its deepest sorrows to the Costantino family on the passing of Maria (Sciarra) |
|
2-25 |
Costantino; and be it further |
|
2-26 |
     RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and he hereby is authorized and directed to |
|
2-27 |
transmit duly certified copies of this resolution to the Honorable Steven Costantino, Secretary of |
|
2-28 |
the Rhode Island Office of Health and Human Services, and family of Maria Costantino. |
