EXPRESSING PROFOUND SYMPATHY ON THE PASSING OF WILLIAM A. FOSTER | |

     WHEREAS, It is with great sadness that this Senate has learned of the passing of William |
|

A. Foster. He was the beloved husband of his wife of sixty-four years, Jane, and the longtime |
|
1-3 |
publisher, journalist, and owner of the East Greenwich Pendulum; and |
|
1-4 |
      WHEREAS, Mr. Foster was a graduate of Northeastern University, where he had earned |
|
1-5 |
an English/Journalism degree. His studies were put on hold for 2 1/2 years while he served as a |
|
1-6 |
Bombardier in the Army Air Corps; and |
|
1-7 |
     WHEREAS, Upon completion of his education, Mr. Foster was employed in the |
|
1-8 |
advertising field for the next twenty years until 1964, when he and his wife were able to purchase |
|
1-9 |
a local newspaper, the East Greenwich Pendulum. Together, they ran the paper for the next |
|
1-10 |
twenty years; and |
|
1-11 |
     WHEREAS, Mr. Foster was the father of five children, Mark, Anne, John, David, and |
|
1-12 |
Beth, the grandfather of ten beautiful grandchildren, and the brother of Claire Hooper. He was |
|
1-13 |
predeceased by his brother, Raymond, and his sisters, Viola Foster and Grace Bean. He was also |
|
1-14 |
a member of the East Greenwich First Baptist Church; and |
|
1-15 |
     WHEREAS, There is no doubt that William Foster, a gifted writer and a true gentleman, |
|
1-16 |
enriched the lives of all who knew him and he will be sadly missed; now, therefore be it |
|
1-17 |
     RESOLVED, That this Senate of the State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations |
|
1-18 |
hereby expresses our deepest sympathies on the passing of William A. Foster; and be it further |
|
2-19 |
     RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and he hereby is authorized and directed to |
|
2-20 |
transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to Mrs. Jane Foster and Family. |
