CONGRATULATING ROBERTA RICHMAN ON BEING INDUCTED INTO THE | |
|
CRIMINAL JUSTICE HALL OF FAME | |

     WHEREAS, The Criminal Justice Hall of Fame was created by Attorney General Peter |
|
1-2 |
Kilmartin to recognize people who have made significant contributions to the state's criminal |
|
1-3 |
justice system. The inaugural class to be inducted in 2012 was selected by the newly formed |
|
1-4 |
Criminal Justice Hall of Fame Board of Trustees; and |
|
1-5 |
     WHEREAS, Ms. Richman is the Assistant Director of rehabilitative services and |
|
1-6 |
community corrections at the Adult Correctional Institution and has been named one of |
|
1-7 |
this year’s Hall of Fame inductees; and |
|
1-8 |
     WHEREAS, During her tenure as head warden, Ms. Richman is credited with making |
|
1-9 |
numerous reforms within the department. Inmate rehabilitation is one of the goals of |
|
1-10 |
incarceration and towards that end, Ms. Richman was instrumental in developing |
|
1-11 |
programs dealing with discharge planning, residential substance abuse treatment, parenting |
|
1-12 |
classes, and domestic and sexual violence abuse counseling; and |
|
1-13 |
     WHEREAS, In addition, Ms. Richman has developed a student intern project program |
|
1-14 |
with four local colleges and established a community service placement project with a number of |
|
1-15 |
the state’s nonprofit organizations; and |
|
1-16 |
     WHEREAS, Perhaps Ms. Richman’s most notable accomplishment was the creation of a |
|
1-17 |
reentry program called “Women in Transition” which evolved into a nonprofit organization |
|
1-18 |
dedicated to assisting and advocating for women being released from the correctional institution; |
|
1-19 |
and |
|
2-20 |
     WHEREAS, Criminal rehabilitation has many positive benefits that can impact not only |
|
2-21 |
our state but also the lives of many inmates as well as their families. Ms. Richman’s forward |
|
2-22 |
thinking programs and dedication to her profession makes her eminently deserving of the honor |
|
2-23 |
and distinction of being inducted into the Criminal Justice Hall of Fame; now, therefore be it |
|
2-24 |
     RESOLVED, That this Senate of the State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations |
|
2-25 |
hereby applauds and congratulates Roberta Richman on being a 2012 inductee into the Rhode |
|
2-26 |
Island Criminal Justice Hall of Fame. We furthermore extend our gratitude for her many years of |
|
2-27 |
dedicated service to the people of the State of Rhode Island; and be it further |
|
2-28 |
     RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and he hereby is authorized and directed to |
|
2-29 |
transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to Roberta Richman. |
