EXPRESSING DEEPEST CONDOLENCES ON THE PASSING OF HENRY R. "RICK" HOLE | |

     WHEREAS, Henry R. “Rick” Hole was born and raised in Newport, Rhode Island, and |
|

was a resident of Newport for most of his life. Growing up, Rick was an outstanding all-star |
|
1-3 |
athlete who excelled in basketball, football, and baseball. After sustaining a sports career-ending |
|
1-4 |
back injury, Rick turned his passion for athletics to teaching and coaching. He attended Kansas |
|
1-5 |
State Teacher’s College, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in physical education, and later |
|
1-6 |
earned a master’s degree in physical education from the University of Rhode Island; and |
|
1-7 |
     WHEREAS, Rick returned to Aquidneck Island after college, married Jacqueline Feeney, |
|
1-8 |
and began a distinguished life-long career in the Newport School System. Rick served as a |
|
1-9 |
physical education teacher and coach from 1968 to 1987, and in 1987 was named the Athletic |
|
1-10 |
Director at Rogers High School, where he worked until his retirement in 1996. In 1996 he earned |
|
1-11 |
the Athletic Director of the Year Award from the Rhode Island Interscholastic Athletic |
|
1-12 |
Administrators Association. He was later inducted into the Newport Sports Hall of Fame; and |
|
1-13 |
     WHEREAS, Rick also gave much of his time in service to others. He worked tirelessly to |
|
1-14 |
raise money to support athletics. Some of his major efforts include organizing and raising money |
|
1-15 |
to build track and tennis courts at Rogers High School, renovations at Cardine’s Field, and many |
|
1-16 |
other similar initiatives, such as raising money for sports equipment at Rogers High School. Rick |
|
1-17 |
was a dedicated member of the Middletown Knights of Columbus, the Fraternal Order of Police |
|
1-18 |
Association, and was a parishioner of St. Mary’s Church in Newport. In addition to teaching, |
|
1-19 |
Rick also ran the Jr. Sports Program at the Spouting Rock Beach Association for twenty-five |
|
1-20 |
years; and |
|
2-21 |
     WHEREAS, Besides his wife, Rick leaves behind three daughters, Jennifer E. Hole, |
|
2-22 |
Heather Hole Strout and her husband, Richard, and Jonna Hole Conheeney and her husband, |
|
2-23 |
Adam. He also was the grandfather of five grandchildren, Christopher and Jenna Strout, and |
|
2-24 |
Adeline, Anna, and Adam Conheeney. He also leaves behind his sisters Leslie Maher and her |
|
2-25 |
husband, Mike, Roberta Cecchi and her husband, Mike, his brother John Hole and his wife, |
|
2-26 |
Kathy, and his brother-in-law Richard Carroll. His sister Jerilyn “Dede” Gleason Carroll and his |
|
2-27 |
brother-in-law Jack Gleason preceded Rick in death. Rick was also a loving uncle to many nieces |
|

and nephews; now, therefore be it |
|

     RESOLVED, That this Senate of the State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations |
|
2-30 |
hereby expresses its deepest condolences on the passing of Henry R. “Rick” Hole; and be it |
|
2-31 |
further |
|

     RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and he hereby is authorized and directed to |
|
2-33 |
transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to Jacqueline Feeney Hole. |
