It is enacted by the General Assembly as follows: | |
|

     SECTION 1. Chapter 37-8 of the General Laws entitled "Public Buildings" is hereby |
|

amended by adding thereto the following section: |
|

     37-8-20. Motorcycle designated parking at public buildings. -- (a) According to the |
|
1-4 |
requirements set forth herein, designated parking spaces for motorcycles shall be provided in |
|
1-5 |
parking areas that are adjacent to, or within plain sight of, state, city, and town buildings, with the |
|
1-6 |
exception of state airports and the campuses of the state university and colleges; provided that |
|
1-7 |
each public institution of higher education prepares a defined plan or program to encourage |
|
1-8 |
and/or to accommodate motorcycle operation and parking. For each such public building with |
|
1-9 |
thirty (30) or more off-street parking spaces, at least one parking space shall be dedicated for |
|
1-10 |
motorcycle parking only. For every additional thirty (30) parking spaces adjacent to a public |
|
1-11 |
building, an additional motorcycle parking space, up to a maximum of five (5) additional |
|
1-12 |
motorcycle parking spaces, shall be provided. |
|
1-13 |
     (b) The signage designating such parking spaces shall be provided by the department of |
|
1-14 |
transportation within one year after the effective date of this section. |
|
1-15 |
     (c) Unauthorized use of a designated motorcycle parking space will result in a fine to the |
|
1-16 |
owner of the offending vehicle in the amount of eighty-five dollars ($85.00). |
|
1-17 |
     (d) Motorcycle parking spaces would only be required to be set aside between April 1 |
|
1-18 |
and November 30 of each year. |

2-19 |
     SECTION 2. This act shall take effect upon passage. Spaces shall be designated and |
|

signage provided within one year of the effective date. |

     This act would require public buildings, with certain exemptions, to provide designated |
|

parking spaces for motorcycles at the rate of one space per total of thirty (30) spaces between |
|

April 1 and November 30 of each year. Unauthorized use of the designated space would result in |
|
3-4 |
a fine of eighty-five dollars ($85.00). This act would further provide that the signs designating |
|
3-5 |
parking spaces for motorcycle parking shall be provided by the department of transportation. |

     This act would take effect upon passage. Spaces would be designated and signage |
|
3-7 |
provided within one year of the effective date. |
