HONORING CONOR JOHN FALLON ON ATTAINING THE RANK OF EAGLE SCOUT

     WHEREAS, Scouting is a movement that challenges, inspires, and guides young men

1-2

toward high achievements and high values as expressed in the Scout oath, law, motto, and slogan;

1-3

and

1-4

     WHEREAS, The rank of Eagle is the highest rank in the Boy Scouts, and attainment of

1-5

this rank requires mastery of difficult challenges in diverse areas and the courage and tenacity to

1-6

pursue a goal over a long period of time; and

1-7

     WHEREAS, Conor John Fallon is a remarkable young man worthy of this prestigious

1-8

achievement and his accomplishments are truly deserving of our recognition; and

1-9

     WHEREAS, Conor began his scouting career as a Cub Scout with Pack 3, East

1-10

Greenwich, coming in as a Bear Cub and continuing through Webelos I and II. He earned the

1-11

Arrow of Light Award and crossed over to Boy Scouts, joining Troop 1, East Greenwich, Rhode

1-12

Island, where he pursued the rank of Eagle. Using his skills and abilities for the common good, he

1-13

has earned the required merit badges and served in leadership roles throughout his years in Troop

1-14

1, including Historian, Librarian, Assistant Patrol Leader, Patrol Leader, and Assistant Senior

1-15

Patrol Leader; and

1-16

     WHEREAS, Eagle Scout Conor is also active with Sea Scout Ship 1909 at the East

1-17

Greenwich Yacht Club, serving as Boatswain, the highest leadership position. His love of the

1-18

outdoors took him on three adventure trips, including one to Maine High Adventure Area, with a

1-19

canoe trip down the Allagash Wilderness Waterway. He returned two years later to act as crew

1-20

leader for a trip described as “the hardest in the history of the Matagamon High Adventure Base.”

The following year, Conor hiked from Mount Madison to Mount Lafayette in the White

2-1

Mountains of New Hampshire on a weeklong high adventure hike as part of one of the two crews

2-2

and acted in the position of Trip Leader, coordinating the trip with the adult leaders, as well as the

2-3

leaders from the other two teams; and

2-4

     WHEREAS, Conor decided that his Eagle Project would be to benefit the Nature

2-5

Conservancy and the public of Rhode Island. He chose to rebuild a bridge to replace a structurally

2-6

unsound predecessor and install a railing on a viewing platform on Tillinghast Pond Management

2-7

Area in West Greenwich. A group of scouts hiked to the work site with replacement boards that

2-8

had been prepared in advance so the construction could easily be performed on site. Conor and

2-9

his fellow scouts devoted countless hours and an amazing amount of energy carrying out their

2-10

project for the citizens of Rhode Island who visit this area; and

2-11

     WHEREAS, Conor finds time to be an active student as well as a scout. Currently a

2-12

senior at East Greenwich High School, he is a member of the rowing crew and wrestling team,

2-13

Student Council, varsity club, and teen leadership consortium. Conor plans to attend college, as

2-14

well as serve his country after graduation; and

2-15

     WHEREAS, Attainment of the rank of Eagle confers upon the Eagle Scout an honor that

2-16

will dignify him for the rest of his life. It is essential and fitting to recognize the triumphs of our

2-17

youth and to celebrate the accomplishments of our future leaders. Conor exemplifies everything

2-18

an Eagle Scout should be, and all that we hope our children will grow to be; now, therefore be it

2-19

     RESOLVED, That this Senate of the State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations

2-20

hereby honors Conor John Fallon for all he has done to attain the rank of Eagle Scout, and we

2-21

extend our deepest appreciation to Conor for his untiring service to the community and for setting

2-22

a high standard of commitment and dedication by which youth of this great state may follow; and

2-23

be it further

2-24

     RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and he hereby is authorized and directed to

2-25

transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to Eagle Scout Conor John Fallon.
