CONGRATULATING JO-ANN J. MACARI ON THE OCCASION OF HER RETIREMENT | |

AS CHIEF OF THE RHODE ISLAND SHERIFF'S DEPARTMENT, PROVIDENCE COUNTY | |
|

     WHEREAS, For twenty-five years, Jo-Ann J. Macari has dedicated her professional |
|

career to the safety and well-being of the courts and the people of Rhode Island; and |
|
1-3 |
     WHEREAS, A pioneer in Rhode Island law enforcement, Jo-Ann was named Deputy |
|
1-4 |
Sheriff of the Year in 2000, and sworn in as the state's first female chief sheriff in January, 2001. |
|
1-5 |
In this capacity, she assumed oversight of the 82 deputy sheriffs responsible for defendant |
|
1-6 |
transport and Jurist, jury, and gallery safety; and |
|
1-7 |
     WHEREAS, Jo-Ann’s storied career in law enforcement has taken her through all of the |
|
1-8 |
courts in Providence, from the Supreme Court to the Workers’ Compensation Court, as well as |
|
1-9 |
various offices for the union that represents sheriff's employees, as she worked her way to the top |
|
1-10 |
job; and |
|
1-11 |
     WHEREAS, Jo-Ann exemplified the ideals of an enthusiastic and truly dedicated leader, |
|
1-12 |
constantly developing new skills and challenging herself professionally as she earned an |
|
1-13 |
associate's degree in law enforcement from Roger Williams University and further pursued |
|
1-14 |
coursework at Providence College; and |
|
1-15 |
     WHEREAS, In the wake of all the lives and hearts of the countless people she has |
|
1-16 |
touched, Jo-Ann now moves on to future adventures. She will be truly missed by the Rhode |
|
1-17 |
Island Sheriff’s Department and all of the officers of the court; now, therefore be it |
|
1-18 |
     RESOLVED, That this House of Representatives of the State of Rhode Island and |
|
1-19 |
Providence Plantations hereby recognizes, honors, and thanks Jo-Ann J. Macari on the occasion |
|
1-20 |
of her retirement after many years of steadfast and unselfish service with the Rhode Island |
|
2-1 |
Sheriff’s Department. We wish her good health, fulfillment, and continued success in all her |
|
2-2 |
future endeavors; and be it further |
|

     RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and he hereby is authorized and directed to |
|
2-4 |
transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to Jo-Ann J. Macari. |
