RELATING TO HIGHWAYS - JUNKYARD CONTROL ACT | |

It is enacted by the General Assembly as follows: | |
|

     SECTION 1. Section 24-14-3 of the General Laws in Chapter 24-14 entitled "Junkyard |
|

Control Act" is hereby amended to read as follows: |
|

     24-14-3. Definitions. -- (a) "Automobile junkyard" means any establishment or place |
|
1-4 |
where one or more unserviceable, discarded, worn out or junked automobiles or bodies, engines, |
|
1-5 |
tires, parts or accessories are gathered together. |
|
1-6 |
      (b) "Interstate system" means that portion of the national system of interstate and defense |
|
1-7 |
highways located within this state, as officially designated, or as may hereafter be so designated, |
|
1-8 |
by the director of transportation, and approved by the secretary of commerce, pursuant to the |
|
1-9 |
provisions of title 23, United States Code, Highways. |
|
1-10 |
      (c) "Junk" means old or scrap copper, brass, rope, rags, batteries, paper, trash, rubber |
|
1-11 |
debris, waste, or junked, dismantled, or wrecked automobiles, or parts thereof, iron, steel, and |
|
1-12 |
other old or scrap metal, ferrous or nonferrous material. |
|
1-13 |
      (d) "Junkyard" means an establishment or place of business which is maintained, |
|
1-14 |
operated, or used for storing, keeping, buying, or selling junk, as defined in subsection 24-14- |
|
1-15 |
3(c), or for the maintenance or operation of an automobile junkyard and the term shall include |
|
1-16 |
garbage dumps, |
|
1-17 |
      (e) "Primary system" means that portion of connected main highways, as officially |
|
1-18 |
designated, or as may hereafter be so designated, by the director of transportation, and approved |
|
1-19 |
by the secretary of commerce, pursuant to the provisions of title 23, United States Code, |
|
1-20 |
Highways. |
|

     SECTION 2. This act shall take effect upon passage. |
