CONGRATULATING PORTSMOUTH HIGH SCHOOL SOPHOMORE FORWARD CHRIS

OLIVEIRA ON BEING NAMED THE 2012 NEWPORT DAILY NEWS ALL-COUNTY

HOCKEY PLAYER OF THE YEAR

     WHEREAS, Chris Oliveira may only be 5’9” and weigh 150 pounds, but he packs a

powerful punch on the ice with his combination of speed, high octane scoring ability and his high

1-3

IQ feel for the game on the ice. He simply has a next level feel for the game of hockey. He has

1-4

the ability to anticipate plays before they happen. He’s a very disciplined player who always

1-5

gives 100% to his team in every game he plays; and

1-6

     WHEREAS, Chris had a breakout sophomore season for the Portsmouth High School

1-7

hockey team, scoring an astounding 40 goals in 26 games, including five in six playoff games.

His Coach Mike Monahan praises him for his hard work and intelligence on the ice, for being a

1-9

very coachable kid, and more importantly, for being a great teammate on and off the ice. Chris is

1-10

a modest young man who never fails to thank teammates for good passes setting up his goals, and

1-11

thanking his coaches for all their hard work and support for him; and

1-12

     WHEREAS, Chris is an outstanding student and lives in Little Compton. He is the son of

1-13

Christopher Oliveira and Siobhan Maher-Oliveira, and the brother of Haley Oliveira. We look

1-14

forward to Chris Oliveira making an even greater impact both on and off the ice in the

1-15

forthcoming years. We wish him continued success in the future and hope all of his young dreams

1-16

come to fruition; now, therefore be it

1-17

     RESOLVED, That this House of Representatives of the State of Rhode Island and

1-18

Providence Plantations hereby congratulates Chris Oliveira of Portsmouth High School on being

1-19

named the 2012 Newport Daily News All-County Hockey Player of the Year; and be it further

2-20

     RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and he hereby is authorized and directed to

2-21

transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to Chris Oliveira.
