 It is enacted by the General Assembly as follows:  | |
| 
 1-1  | 
      SECTION 1. Section 11-47-33 of the General Laws in Chapter 11-47 entitled "Weapons"  | 
| 
 1-2  | 
 is hereby amended to read as follows:  | 
| 
 1-3  | 
      11-47-33. Possession of firearms by minors. -- (a) It shall be unlawful within this state  | 
| 
 1-4  | 
 for any person under eighteen (18) years of age to possess   | 
| 
 1-5  | 
 
  | 
| 
 1-6  | 
 
  | 
| 
 1-7  | 
 
  | 
| 
 1-8  | 
 
  | 
| 
 1-9  | 
 
  | 
| 
 1-10  | 
 
  | 
| 
 1-11  | 
 
  | 
| 
 1-12  | 
 
  | 
| 
 1-13  | 
 
  | 
| 
 1-14  | 
 
  | 
| 
 1-15  | 
 
  | 
| 
 1-16  | 
      (b) This provision shall not apply to such persons that:  | 
| 
 1-17  | 
      (1) Hold a permit as provided in section 11-47-34 and are in the presence of a parent or  | 
| 
 1-18  | 
 guardian or supervising adult at any regular and recognized camp or rifle range approved by the  | 
| 
 1-19  | 
 Rhode Island state police or by the chief of police of the city or town in which the camp or rifle  | 
| 
 1-20  | 
 range is located;  | 
| 
 2-1  | 
      (2) Are engaged in lawful hunting activity under the supervision of a parent or guardian  | 
| 
 2-2  | 
 or qualified adult; or  | 
| 
 2-3  | 
      (3) Are participating in Reserve Officer Training Corps programs, ceremonial parade  | 
| 
 2-4  | 
 activities, competitive and target shooting, participants in state militia activities or minors  | 
| 
 2-5  | 
 participating in a basic firearms education program.  | 
| 
 2-6  | 
      (c) A person under eighteen (18) years of age may carry a firearm, unloaded and encased,  | 
| 
 2-7  | 
 in a suitable case to and from his or her home and the camp or range and from the camp or range  | 
| 
 2-8  | 
 to another camp or range when accompanied by a parent, guardian or supervising adult.  | 
| 
 2-9  | 
         | 
| 
 2-10  | 
 (21) years of age or older and permitted by law to possess and use the firearm.  | 
| 
 2-11  | 
      SECTION 2. This act shall take effect upon passage.  |
