It is enacted by the General Assembly as follows: | |
|

     SECTION 1. Chapter 40.1-5 of the General Laws entitled "Mental Health Law" is |
|

hereby amended by adding thereto the following section: |
|

     40.1-5-8.1. Jurisdiction of the district court. – The district court shall exercise |
|
1-4 |
jurisdiction in both law and equity over any petition brought pursuant to this chapter, or for the |
|
1-5 |
purpose of effectuating the intent of this chapter, including, but not limited to, petitions for |
|
1-6 |
instructions for care and treatment of patients, providing substituted consent, and continued |
|
1-7 |
oversight of orders. |

1-8 |
     SECTION 2. This act shall take effect upon passage. |
