RELATING TO TOWNS AND CITIES - BACKGROUND CHECKS

It is enacted by the General Assembly as follows:

     SECTION 1. Chapter 45-2 of the General Laws entitled "General Powers" is hereby

amended by adding thereto the following section:

     45-2-3.4. Background checks. -- Notwithstanding any provision of the general or public

1-4

law to the contrary, any municipal fire department may request a background check from their

local police department for any employee or volunteer serving their community.

     SECTION 2. This act shall take effect upon passage.
