RELATING TO TOWNS AND CITIES - GENERAL POWERS

     Introduced By: Representatives Reilly, Nunes, Morgan, and McLaughlin

It is enacted by the General Assembly as follows:

     SECTION 1. Chapter 45-2 of the General Laws entitled "General Powers" is hereby

amended by adding thereto the following section:

     45-2-60. Renewal of vehicle registrations. – The town or city council of each

1-4

municipality may by ordinance permit the city or town clerk to accept any and all applications

1-5

involving renewal of vehicle registrations, but not new vehicle registrations, in cooperation with

1-6

the director of the division of motor vehicles.

     SECTION 2. This act shall take effect upon passage.

     This act would allow the city or town council to enact an ordinance allowing the city or

town clerk to accept applications for renewal of vehicle registrations in cooperation with the
