EXPRESSING OUR DEEPEST CONDOLENCES ON THE PASSING OF | |
MICHAEL J. O'ROURKE, SR. | |

     WHEREAS, It is with great sadness that this House of Representatives has learned of the |

passing of Michael J. O’Rourke, Sr., a resident and well-respected citizen of the City of Warwick |
1-3 |
who left an indelible impression on everyone he met; and |
1-4 |
     WHEREAS, The son of Winnie A. O’Rourke and the late C. Justin O’Rourke, Sr., |
1-5 |
Michael was the devoted husband of Laurie O’Rourke, and the loving father of Michael J. |
1-6 |
O'Rourke, Jr., Christopher K. O'Rourke, and Kara A. O'Rourke. Michael was the brother of John |
1-7 |
F. O'Rourke and his wife, Donna, and C. Justin O'Rourke, Jr., and his wife, JoAnne and the Uncle |
1-8 |
of Darcy A., Devin J.F., Kailey W., and Lucas I. O'Rourke; and |
1-9 |
     WHEREAS, Michael had boundless energy, civic commitment, and a love of his Irish |
1-10 |
heritage. He was a longtime member of the Emerald Society, the Irish Famine Memorial, and the |
1-11 |
Ceilidhe Club, and served as a member and President of the Ancient Order of Hibernians |
1-12 |
Division #1 Warwick Chapter, and the Ancient Order of Hibernians State Chapter; and |
1-13 |
     WHEREAS, An outstanding den leader for St. Peter’s Pack Four Cub Scouts, Michael |
1-14 |
showed an indication of his future potential and set the stage for his future success. A devoted |
1-15 |
husband and loving father who was blessed by his life and achievements, Michael hung the sign |
1-16 |
“It is a wonderful life” in his establishment O’Rourke’s Bar and Grill, truly an indication of how |
1-17 |
he lived his life; and |
1-18 |
     WHEREAS, Although Michael will be missed by many, his life and achievements will |
1-19 |
live on for years to come in the memories of everyone fortunate enough to have been touched by |
1-20 |
the quality of this remarkable gentleman; and |
2-1 |
     WHEREAS, Even though we are diminished by this loss and mourn the passing of |
2-2 |
Michael, so must we celebrate the kindness, understanding, and generosity of spirit with which he |
2-3 |
lived every day of his life; now, therefore be it |
2-4 |
     RESOLVED, That this House of Representatives of the State of Rhode Island and |
2-5 |
Providence Plantations hereby expresses our deepest condolences on the passing of Michael J. |
2-6 |
O’Rourke, Sr., and be it further |
2-7 |
     RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and he hereby is authorized and directed to |
2-8 |
transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to Laurie O’Rourke. |
