CONGRATULATING THE JUNIOR LEAGUE OF RHODE ISLAND ON THE 90TH | |

ANNIVERSARY OF ITS FOUNDING | |

     WHEREAS, Founded in 1921, the Junior League of Rhode Island, Inc. is an organization |
|

of women committed to promoting volunteerism, developing the potential of women, and |
|
1-3 |
improving communities through the effective action and leadership of trained volunteers; and |
|
1-4 |
     WHEREAS, The Junior League of Rhode Island reaches out to women of all races, |
|
1-5 |
religions, and national origins who demonstrate an interest in, and commitment to, volunteerism; |
|
1-6 |
and |
|
1-7 |
     WHEREAS, Over the last nine decades, the members of the Junior League of Rhode |
|
1-8 |
Island have generously given their time, talents, and energy. Together, they have provided over a |
|
1-9 |
million hours of volunteer service and raised over $3 million in support of their mission to |
|
1-10 |
improve communities; and |
|
1-11 |
     WHEREAS, The total impact of the Junior League of Rhode Island to the community is |
|
1-12 |
immeasurable, as they have touched the lives of many through community projects and have |
|
1-13 |
trained thousands of women to become effective community and civic leaders; and |
|
1-14 |
     WHEREAS, The Junior League of Rhode Island has demonstrated a commitment to |
|
1-15 |
those in need by partnering with Amos House to support its new Mother-Child Reunification |
|
1-16 |
Program, a unique project providing housing and ongoing parenting support, peer counseling, |
|
1-17 |
childcare, educational workshops, and social activities for women and children reuniting in a safe, |
|
1-18 |
healthy environment; and |
|
1-19 |
     WHEREAS, The Junior League of Rhode Island has worked to enrich the human |
|
1-20 |
experience with hope, strength, and joy by collaborating with the Autism Project to provide |
|
2-1 |
respite to parents with autistic children, and to support staff in the Community Connections |
|
2-2 |
Program, conducting social group activities and life skills practice for children on the autism |
|
2-3 |
spectrum; and |
|
2-4 |
      WHEREAS, The State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations encourages and |
|
2-5 |
applauds the efforts of the Junior League of Rhode Island volunteers who work tirelessly to better |
|
2-6 |
the lives of their fellow citizens; now, therefore be it |
|
2-7 |
     RESOLVED, That this House of Representatives of the State of Rhode Island and |
|
2-8 |
Providence Plantations hereby recognizes and congratulates the Junior League of Rhode Island on |
|
2-9 |
the occasion of the 90th anniversary of its founding; and be it further |
|
2-10 |
     RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and he hereby is authorized and directed to |
|
2-11 |
transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to Petra Jenkins, President of the Junior League of |
|
2-12 |
Rhode Island. |
