EXPRESSING CONDOLENCES ON THE PASSING OF PATRICIA M. GOODWIN | |

     WHEREAS, It is with profound sadness and regret that this House of Representatives has |
|

learned of the passing of Patricia M. Goodwin, who was the loving mother of Senate Majority |
|
1-3 |
Whip, Maryellen Goodwin; and |
|
1-4 |
     WHEREAS, Mrs. Patricia Goodwin, who sadly passed away on December 21, 2011, was |
|
1-5 |
the wife of former Senator Thomas N. Goodwin for fifty-three years. She was also the beloved |
|
1-6 |
mother of Sheila A. Connelly and Maureen P. LaRocque; and |
|
1-7 |
     WHEREAS, Patricia Goodwin was born in Providence on Saint Patrick’s Day, seventy- |
|
1-8 |
six years ago and lived in the Smith Hill Neighborhood for most of her adult life before moving |
|
1-9 |
to the Town of North Providence; and |
|
1-10 |
     WHEREAS, Pat was employed as a genealogist for the State of Rhode Island, |
|
1-11 |
Department of Vital Records for eighteen years, retiring in 1997. Upon her retirement, she, along |
|
1-12 |
with her daughter Maureen, hosted Perfect Beginnings Family Christian Day Care at her |
|
1-13 |
residence in North Providence for seven years until she became ill in 2006. Prior to that, from |
|
1-14 |
1952 to 1959, she was the acting deputy Recorder of Deeds for the City of Providence; and |
|
1-15 |
     WHEREAS, Patricia Goodwin was a faithful communicant of Saint Patrick Church in |
|
1-16 |
Providence, a member of the 1st Senatorial District Committee and the Saint Xavier Alumnae |
|
1-17 |
Association, and an avid Red Sox Fan; and |
|
1-18 |
     WHEREAS, Patricia Goodwin will be fondly remembered as a generous and caring |
|
1-19 |
person and for her warm hospitality at gatherings she hosted at her home during the holidays, and |
|
1-20 |
in particular for the annual St. Patrick’s Day parade celebrations at her home. She had a full life |
|
1-21 |
as a nurturing wife and loving and guiding mother and grandmother; and |
|
2-1 |
     WHEREAS, Mrs. Goodwin will be dearly missed by her family, friends, and all who |
|
2-2 |
knew her; now, therefore be it |
|
2-3 |
     RESOLVED, That this House of Representatives of the State of Rhode Island and |
|
2-4 |
Providence Plantations hereby offers its sincere condolences to Patricia Goodwin’s husband, |
|
2-5 |
Thomas, her daughters Maryellen, Sheila, and Maureen, her grandchildren Marygrace, Teresa, |
|
2-6 |
John, and Liam, and her sister, Elizabeth; and be it further |
|
2-7 |
     RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and he hereby is authorized and directed to |
|
2-8 |
transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to The Honorable Thomas N. Goodwin and |
|
2-9 |
Family. |
