CONGRATULATING GREGORY T. COFFEY ON ATTAINING THE RANK OF EAGLE

SCOUT

     WHEREAS, In a society that grows increasingly fragmented, and too often tempts its

youth to selfish and unwise decisions, it is a special young man who chooses to dedicated himself

1-3

to the service of others by practicing the noble ideals of the Scout Oath and Scout Law; and

1-4

     WHEREAS, In spite of peer pressure and other influences, there are those teenagers who

1-5

rise above the rest. Gregory T. Coffey is just such a first-rate youth, and his accomplishments are

1-6

truly deserving of our recognition; and

1-7

     WHEREAS, Gregory is a member of Troop 101, Foster, Rhode Island. Using his skills

1-8

and abilities for the common good, he has earned 28 Merit badges and held a myriad of

1-9

leadership positions including Patrol Leader, Troop Guide, and Senior Patrol Leader. He

1-10

currently holds the rank of Junior Assistant Scoutmaster. He has also received Cub Scout's

1-11

highest honor, the distinguished Arrow of Light Award, the Ad Altare Dei religious award, and

1-12

the Pope Pius XII Award; and

1-13

     WHEREAS, Attaining the rank of Eagle Scout requires considerable perseverance. This

1-14

significant achievement is a landmark very few men will ever reach in their lives. Gregory

1-15

upholds the dignity and virtue of a true Eagle and has proven himself to be worthy of trust and a

1-16

truly dynamic leader; and

1-17

     WHEREAS, Gregory's Eagle Project was to take on the challenge of leading a group of

1-18

Scouts to improve a walking trail at Ponaganset High School, making it more handicap

1-19

accessible. Gregory devoted countless hours and an amazing amount of energy carrying out his

2-1

project for the enjoyment and benefit of the entire community; now, therefore be it

2-2

     RESOLVED, That this Senate of the State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations

2-3

hereby honors Gregory T. Coffey with pride and deep appreciation for his many outstanding

2-4

accomplishments. We encourage him to grow, mature, and continue to be the kind of determined

2-5

and dedicated young man America needs; and be it further

2-6

     RESOLVED, That the Secretary be and he hereby is authorized and directed to transmit a

2-7

duly certified copy of this resolution to Gregory T. Coffey.
