CONGRATULATING ANDREW MARGENOT ON BEING NAMED THE LINCOLN HIGH

SCHOOL CLASS OF 2006 VALEDICTORIAN

     WHEREAS, Crediting his parents John and Mariacarmen Margenot for igniting his

curiosity and desire to learn, Andrew Margenot distinguishes himself not only in being first in his

1-3

class, but also by the profundity of his honors, athletic participation and awards; and

1-4

     WHEREAS, Some of Andrew's numerous credits and achievements include: being a

1-5

member of the National and Rhode Island Honor Societies, being a recipient of the Dartmouth

1-6

Book Award, receiving the University of Rochester Humanities Award, receiving the Pell Award

1-7

for United States History, and the Frederick Douglass and Susan B. Anthony Award in

1-8

Humanities and Social Science, and attaining a Certificate of Initial Mastery for completing the

1-9

capstone major research course at Lincoln High School. He has performed in the school band as

1-10

well as the Rhode Island Philharmonic Wind Ensemble playing the Alto Saxophone; and

1-11

     WHEREAS, Andrew also participated in the 2005 Science Olympiad in which he was

1-12

recognized as the Rhode Island state champion in Biology. He is also an active member of the

1-13

School Improvement Team and the Spanish Club; and

1-14

     WHEREAS, Being nominated as a Wendy's High School Heisman Award recipient,

1-15

Andrew was recognized as one of the top ten Rhode Island scholar-athletes in track. He was also

1-16

active in cross country for three years, he earned All State honors, and lettered in both indoor and

1-17

outdoor track while serving as captain his Senior year; and

1-18

     WHEREAS, Cherishing the memories, but looking forward to the next chapter in his life,

1-19

Andrew plans to attend Connecticut College in the fall; and

     WHEREAS, In spite of peer pressure, stressors and other influences, there are those

2-2

young people who rise above the rest. Andrew Margenot is just such a first-rate young man, and

2-3

his accomplishments are truly deserving of our recognition and praise; now, therefore be it

2-4

     RESOLVED, That this House of Representatives of the State of Rhode Island and

2-5

Providence Plantations hereby honors and congratulates Andrew Margenot on being named

2-6

Valedictorian of the Lincoln High School Class of 2006. The entire membership extends best

2-7

wishes for his continued success and happiness; and be it further

2-8

     RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and he hereby is authorized and directed to

2-9

transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to Andrew Margenot.
